7/9/2011 Clothes Moth - Biological control with Trichogramma

Wool insulation in buildings is considered to be very effective and environmentally sound. Problems can arise from infestation of clothes moth. Controlling this problem with sprays is very difficult and not pleasant. The best way is to encase the material in Enviromesh Ultrafine at installation so the pest cannot enter the wool. With an existing problem the best approach is to use the parasitic insect Trichogramma evanescens. This tiny insect lays eggs in the moth larvae where they grow to maturity and hatch to attack more larvae. When there are no more pest to attack the Trichogramma evanescens will die out. Back this up with the use of Aeroxon Clothes Moth Traps to reduce male population and monitor how much moth activity there is. This will indicate if and when further introduction are needed.
