MONITORING and CONTROL
|
The use of
insect pest monitoring systems allows a reduction in the number
of insecticide sprays used and avoidance of routine spraying.
This may result in a reduction of pesticide residues in the crop
and preservation of beneficial insects through avoidance of unnecessary
chemical applications.
Both pheromone and sticky traps can be used, depending on the
crop and target pests.
When used correctly the traps can provide the following information:
• When the target pest appears
in the crop
• Optimum timing of pesticide
applications to obtain maximum effect
• How well the insecticide
has performed against the target insect
• Identification of spray ‘windows’
when insecticide applications are not required

YELLOW AND BLUE STICKY TRAPS
For monitoring and as an aid to
the control of Whitefly, Leaf Miner Flies, Western Flower Thrips
and other small, flying insects.
Agralan traps are coated on both sides with either a “dry”
glue, which is protected with a cover paper, whereas Aeroxon traps
are coated with the more traditional wet glue.
|
For routine monitoring the dry glue traps are preferred as they
are easier to handle. The wet glue traps may be preferred for
mass trapping, as they tend to hold more insects.
|
|
BIOBEST BUG-SCAN ROLLS
(WET GLUE)
Designed for the mass trapping of large
numbers of flying insects.
The glue is non-toxic, water-proof, does not dry up, or soften
and drip off in warm conditions.
Dispensed from a rigid roll and simple to install.
Yellow or blue for white fly and thrips respectively.

REBELL WHITE STICKY TRAP
An effective method of monitoring for the presence of Apple and
Plum Sawflies
PHEROMONE TRAPS
Available for detecting Codling Moth, Fruit Tree Tortrix, Summer
Fruit Tortrix and Plumb Fruit Moth.
A wider range of pheromones is available.

CARROT FLY MONITORING
The Rebell orange sticky trap has been widely used
by carrot (and other umbelliferous) crop growers for a number
of years, for the monitoring of carrot fly.
PHEROMONE TRAPS
Available for the detection of a range of pests, including Turnip
Moth, Silver Y Moth, Diamond Back Moth, Pea Moth, Pea & Bean
Weevil.
A wider range of pheromones is available.

PEA & BEAN MONITORING
SYSTEM
An aid to integrated crop management in peas & beans.
This system was developed by IACR Rothamstead and evaluated in
conjunction with PGRO and ADAS.
It provides warning of migration of the adult weevil, aiding decision
making as to the need for, and timing of, any treatment.

NURSERY STOCK |
PHEROMONE TRAPS
Available for Carnation Tortrix Moth and Light Brown Apple Moth.
A wide range of ornamental crops are host plants for these moths.
The caterpillars cause leaf damage, by spinning together the shoot
tips resulting in a reduction in quality.
SLUG MONITORING TRAPS
A new design of slug trap coupled with a highly effective attractant.
The trap has a two part receptacle which allows trapped slugs
to be removed, without loosing the attractant, for counting and
identification.
The attractant is supplied as a powder which is mixed with water
before adding to the trap.
The attractant will remain effective for at least two weeks.
Each trap will attract slugs from a radius of between
1 – 2 metres, depending on conditions and species.
